Waiting Lists

Valuable Information for those on Council waiting lists for housing

Local authorities maintain a register of people who make an application for social housing (Council and Housing Associations) usually known as the Common Housing Register. Most people can register for housing, exceptions being people subject to immigration control, some people from abroad ineligible for social housing, some people considered to have behaved unacceptably which would make them unsuitable as a tenant.

There is more demand for social housing than accommodation available and a points based system is used to decide who is in the high priority groups for rehousing. You can check your local authority's housing allocation policy to see whether you fit the criteria for being placed in a high priority or seek advice from your local housing advice provider.
