Welfare Benefits

The Advice Centre offers a specialised welfare benefit service. This service seeks to maximise people's income by checking their benefit entitlement and offers representation at tribunal on negative Benefit Agency decisions.

There are many welfare benefits, both means-tested and non-means tested. You may be entitled to various benefits depending on your individual circumstances and your residency status in the UK. For further information on what benefits you may be able to claim or to obtain application forms for benefits, please contact your local Benefit Agency or use the information provided online by the organisations listed on the link page.

From 2013 universal credit is expected to replace a range current working age benefits with a view to simplifying the benefit system. More information can be found on the website www.direct.gov.uk.

Housing Benefit – the government has announced changes to Housing Benefit, in particular introducing a cap on the rates of Local housing Allowance. You can check the details of how this might affect you by going to www.direct.gov.uk.
